Sept 4 2019 Update… I don’t know what happened to this post but thank goodness there is a History tab that i was able to find it.. My apologies.. i just got back from my AM bus run.
August 20 2019
Some of you may have seen my last post about the Once upon a story RAL Schedule coming in september..I spent last night getting my background all cut and pierced for my block which will be a 30″ x 30″ block.. the story i chose is Wizard of Oz. I will have this quilt top and all blog post finished by the time my row is released. (does that sound positive)
Onto VS Block 32
Layout on design board.
I’m breaking this one down into a 9 patch. I’ll start with the center.
Make the flying geese 1st
Now join the corner and sides in strips.. press to the solid patches so that they but nicely together
Join the row by butting all the seams to get a nice join
Next section will be the corners and part of the rectangle sections
This photo shows the sections sewn together.. when pressing press the tulip to the black and the leaves to the green so that they will but up nicely when sewn together later
sew the rectangle to the light green triangle.. I folded the peices in half so that they would be perfectly centered.
Now were going to put the side rectangle sections together.
This is the layout of the rectangle section sew one side of the black triangle to the green leaf trapezoid dont forget to leave that 1/4″ ear tag so that everything fits and lines up nicely
When sewing the sections togetehr do is like a inset seam leave that 1/4″ fo that you can sew the side rectangle by pivoting the fabric
so the same for both sides.
Layout so far.. joint sections like a 9 patch in strips. remember to press opposite so that they line up well.
but up the seams of the tulip and leaf
press to the tulip for the top and bottom and press to the center star when joining the rows.
Completed Block. this one looks a bit uneven because i had it draped on the longarm rails since it has gotten so big and it does not fit on my design wall anymore.
I live by Mayerthorpe, Alberta Canada.A mother of 3. In my spare time I have 2 loves: Quilting and my horses these work well with the seasons. I started quilting when my oldest daughter was born 25+ years ago. I was making western shirts, when I quilt making those I had lots of bright cotton so I started making quilts. Over the last 17 years I have really gotten into it. I started taking an applique and a free motion class at my LQS. I'm now at the point where I no longer purchase Patterns. I've actually started designing my own. In 2015 I invested in EQ7 Quilt design program. In 2013 I purchased a HQ Sixteen on a 12 foot frame, then April 2023 I upgraded to a Gammill Stetler 22 inch.
