Today we will be sewing Block 1. You will make 6 of these. This Block will measure 12″ Finished.

Block 1 Patch count and Lettering Chart:

4 Patch Unit Assembly: Make 40
Block 1 uses 24. save the rest to be used in Part 4
To make it easier I will call this one 4PU..
Each block will have four 4 patch unit. .
Sew Color #1 Piece A to Color #2 Piece A.. press to the Fabric 2.
Sew these units together right sides together butting up the center seam so that opposite fabrics touch each other. Trim these blocks so that they measure 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. You may want to make one four patch with scrap fabric. Measure, if it is not the correct size adjust your seam allowance.
Flying Geese Unit Assembly:
Flying Geese (FG): Make 62 this block will use 24. Save the rest for later blocks.
Each block will have 4 flying geese units sewn to Color #1 Piece D.
Sew triangle Color #4 Piece C to Triangle Color #3 Piece B do this for the other side too. Trim the units to measure 2 1/2″ x 4 1/2″.
Sew these Flying geese unit(FGU) to Color #1 Piece D with point in the middle. Press to Fabric 2 Make 31 This block uses 24, save the rest for part 4. The completed flying geese unit should measure 4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″
Block #1 Assembly:
Row 1 & 3 : Sew 4 patch unit(4PU) to Flying geese unit(FGU) to 4 patch Unit(4PU). Make sure that the Color 1 squares are against the Color 2 patch D. Each Row will measure 12 1/2″ x 4 1/2″ Make 19 the rest will be used in Part 4, this block uses 12.
Row 2: Sew the Flying geese unit(FGU) to Color 5 patch E to Flying geese unit(FGU). Make sure that Piece D is against Piece E. Each Row will measure 12 1/2″ x 4 1/2″. Make 6
Sew Row 1 to Row 2. Make sure that the patch D is against patch E
Sew rows 1&2 to Row 3. Make sure that the patch D is against patch E. Trim your finished block #1 to 12 1/2″x 12 1/2″.
